A Tropic Marin Tank (18): Coral Feeding with Phyton

Phytoplankton is the basis for life in the oceans. It is at the bottom of the food chain in the ocean and also in our reefs. Microorganisms eat the algae and thrive. Both, in turn, are eaten by filter feeders. Corals are among these filter feeders.

Tropic Marin Phyton is a dry food in powder form that mimics phytoplankton. It is a very fine powder that is soaked in water and added to the aquarium or directly to the corals. You don't need much, a small scoop per 200 liters twice a day is enough.

I mix a full spoonful with a tiny amount of water and use a small 1 ml syringe to target feed. This way it is heavy enough to drop gently into the coral. This food is packed with nutrients and vitamins and acts like a prebiotic in the aquarium.

As you can see on the pictures, the corals readily accept this food, and I do this target feeding often. Coral feeding is easy and a great fun way to interact with your aquarium inhabitants. -Samuel Christensen
